New Delhi:

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and CM designate Hemant Soren met Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday and invited her for the swearing in ceremony in Ranchi on December 29. Soren, who was accompanied by Congress leaders K C Venugopal and R P N Singh, is also expected to meet Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and invite them for the function.

“I have invited Sonia Gandhi Ji & Rahul Ji for the oath taking ceremony. Sonia Ji has assured that Rahul Ji will attend the ceremony. I will also invite Prime Minister and Home Minister for the oath taking ceremony”, said Soren.

Earlier, Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu invited JMM working president Hemant Soren to form the government, a day after the latter met Murmu and staked claim for the same.

On Tuesday, Soren was formally elected as the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) legislature party leader. Soren, accompanied by leaders of his party, the Congress and RJD -- which comprised the opposition alliance in the assembly polls -- called on the governor at Raj Bhavan to stake claim to form the new government.

The pre-poll alliance of JMM-Congress-RJD bagged 47 seats with JMM getting 30, Congress winning 16 and RJD winning one in the 81-member assembly. Along with this, the three-member JVM (P) has also extended “unconditional support” to Soren to form government.
