New Delhi:

The Congress will observe ‘Save Democracy Day’ across the whole country on Friday to protest Karnataka Governor’s ‘collusion with the BJP’ and his ‘partisan’ action of inviting Bharatiya Janata Party leader BS Yeddyurappa to take oath as chief minister of Karnataka.

The Congress will hold protests at district headquarters and state capitals.

State Congress chiefs have been asked to attend press conferences and give letters to respective governors to wish President Ram Nath Kovind to "safeguard democratic principles and the sanctity of the Constitution".

The Congress along with the JD(S) had submitted a list of Karnataka MLAs, with the complete majority required to form the government, said Congress General Ashok Gehlot, in a letter to party state units.

"The governor has not only undermined the dignity of his office, he has also acted in an unconstitutional manner. This dangerous precedent strikes at the very heart of India's democracy and portends grave consequences for all coming elections," Gehlot said.

The state units have been asked to use ‘evocative slogans’ and innovative techniques to bring the misrepresentation to the spotlight and also attempt to get the support of civil society organisations.

The Congress will expose the misdeed of the BJP, Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlight the fact that democracy has been murdered by the Karnataka governor, who took the oath to safeguard the Constitution, said Congress leader, Randeep Singh Surjewala.
