New Delhi:

Dressed in red, wearing a garland of white flowers and enriching the festival of democracy, a bride in Karnataka’s hill town Madikeri reached the polling booth to cast her vote just before her wedding.

Setting an example for fellow citizens, the girl arrived at the polling booth no. 131 with her mother and cast her vote before tying the knot.

This was not the only example of people of Karnataka celebrating the largest festival of democracy and showing their responsibility towards the nation.

One Viola Fernandes reached the polling booth in Mangaluru city in beautiful white wedding gown with her family members to exercise their franchise. Viola later married to Sylvester Rodgrigues in Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada district of the state.

Karnataka was voting on Saturday to elect its new government. Voting was being held in 222 of the 224-member Karnataka Assembly after elections countermanded in two constituencies.

At least 4.97 crore people were eligible to exercise their right to vote. While 2,948 candidates had contested the 2013 polls, almost 2,600 candidates are in the fray for 2018 Assembly polls in Karnataka.
