New Delhi:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday slammed the Opposition Congress for dragging her mother into the elections. Addressing a gathering in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district, the Prime Minister said that the Congress party doesn’t have the courage to take on him and that’s why they have started to abuse his 97-year-old mother Heeraben Modi.

PM Modi’s sharp reaction came after Congress leader Raj Babbar’s controversial dig at the prime minister over depreciation of the Indian rupee against the US dollar. Speaking at an election rally in Indore, the Congress leader had said, “He (PM Modi) used to say that the Indian rupee has fallen so much against the dollar that it was nearing the age of the then prime minister (Manmohan Singh). Today, the rupee’s valuation has dropped so low, that it is inching closer to your beloved mother’s age.”

The prime minister was quick to use Raj Babbar’s remarks as a political weapon against the Congress party and launched a scathing attack on the Grand Old Party.

“For the last 18 years, I have been defeating the Congress party on every occasion. But the Congress today has gone down to a new low that they have dragged my mother in the elections,” the prime minister said, adding that the party “won’t be able to save its deposit in the elections by abusing my mother.”
