The Congress on Thursday released its fifth list of 16 candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election 2018 later this month. Among the 16 candidates, the Congress has fielded Mithilesh Jain from Murwara, Kamlesh Sahu from Rehli and Vinay Kumar Saxena from Jabalpur Uttar, according to a party statement. Former Madhya Pradesh Minister and BJP leader Sartaj Singh, who has been inducted into the Congress ahead of the poll will contest from Hoshangabad constituency.

The Congress announced its first list of 155 candidates on November 3 in which it renominated 46 MLAs. A day after, it announced the second list of 16 candidates. On Monday night, the Congress announced the third list of 13 candidates while the fourth list of 19 candidates was released Wednesday. In the current assembly, the Congress has 57 MLAs.
The Congress has been out of power in Madhya Pradesh since 2003. While the incumbent Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government is seeking a fourth straight term, the Opposition Congress is trying all possible attempts to oust the Shivraj Singh government from the state.
Polling in Madhya Pradesh is slated for 28 November which will decide the fate of candidates in 230 constituencies across the state. The tenure of Madhya Pradesh assembly is scheduled to end on January 7, 2019.
