Counting of votes for Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections will take place on Thursday with the BJP looking to retain power in both the states, its hopes buoyed by exit polls that indicate an easy victory. Counting of votes will begin at 8 am and all the arrangements have been made.

In Maharashtra, counting of votes for the 288 Assembly segments will be conducted at 269 locations whereas in Haryana a counting centre has been set up in each of the 90 assembly constituencies and there is an additional centre in Gurgaon's Badshahpur segment, which had a larger number of polling booths.

The electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the VVPAT paper trail machines used in Monday's polling are kept at strongrooms which are being guarded by personnel from the state police and paramilitary forces round the clock, an official said.
