Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray embarked on a roadshow on Thursday before filing his nomination from Worli Assembly seat. The roadshow began from party’s office in Lower Parel and culminated at the BMC Engineering Hub in Worli. Aaditya Thackeray will become the first member of the Thackeray family to contest elections.

Shiv Sena youth wing leader Aaditya Thackeray had made the announcement at a party rally in Mumbai that he will contest election from Worli seat. Shiv Sena's sitting MLA Sunil Shinde will vacate his place for Aaditya.

"I am sure of victory as I have the blessings of you all," he had told the gathering.

Thackeray declared assets of Rs 16.05 crore. According to the affidavit filed by the 29-year-old Aaditya, he has movable assets of Rs 11.38 crore and immovable assets of Rs 4.67 crore. It includes bank deposits of Rs 10.36 crore and a car (a BMW) worth Rs 6.50 lakh. The Shiv Sena youth wing chief also owns jewelery, bullion and other valuables worth Rs 64.65 lakh. He did his Bachelor of Arts in 2011 and acquired 'Bachelor of Laws' degree in 2015, the affidavit said. Further, he has no criminal cases pending against him, it stated.

"Worli is considered one of the safest constituencies for the Sena, hence Aaditya's candidature has been finalised. Former NCP leader Sachin Ahir had recently joined the Sena, which will make Thackeray's win easy," a Sena source said.

Ever since the Shiv Sena was founded by late Bal Thackeray in 1966, no member of the family had contested any election or held any constitutional post.

However, Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena will not field a candidate from Worli seat for the upcoming state elections. Aaditya Thackeray — son of Raj's cousin Uddhav Thackeray — will be making his electoral debut from Worli in the election to be held on October 21.
