New Delhi:

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Monday released the names of candidates for the elections to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly. The state goes to polls on November 28.

The NCP candidates for the Mizoram Assembly elections are Lalawmpuia Chhangte, C Ramkinlova, Lalrinpuii and Lalhruaia.

C Ramkinlova, a Presbyterian church member, has been nominated from Hachhek constituency by the party.

Lalrinpuii, the lone woman nominee of the NCP, would contest from Aizawl East-I.

Lalhruaia, a first-timer, has been fielded from Aizawl West - I seat.

Chhangte is hopeful that his party would win Mamit and Hachhek seats. In the 2013 assembly polls, the party had won over 2,000 votes each from these seats.

The NCP has decided not to field candidates from Tuichawng and West Tuipui assembly segments, following the NGO Coordination Committee’s appeal. The committee is an umbrella body of major civil societies and student organisations. It had appealed all political parties not to field any Chakma community candidate for the polls as they are “not natives or sons of the soil”.

Chakmas are “illegal” immigrants from Bangladesh, they should not be given “indigenous” status in Mizoram, committee leader Lal Sangzuala had said, according to a PTI report.
