Telangana Election Results 2018: Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrashekar Rao's (KCR) gamble to dissolve the state assembly eight months before schedule has paid off. TRS is all set to form its second successive government in the state. The party has a clear majority after taking a lead in 90 seats, according to the official Election Commission of India trends. Voting for the 119 seats in the state was held on December 7 and saw a voter turnout of 73.20 per cent. 

The fate of 1,821 candidates contesting the Telangana Assembly election will be decided on Tuesday when the final vote count comes up.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said necessary arrangements have been made for the counting day and the strongrooms, where EVMs are kept, secured with central paramilitary forces providing "first cordon of security."

"EVMs will be brought out polling station-wise and kept at the counting centres which will have 14 tables (except in Medchal which will have 28). And counting will go on. This will be done after the completion of the full postal ballot count. Counting will be done in the respective constituencies," Kumar told news agency PTI.

#7.15: Telangana could witness a hung assembly. Exit polls predict TRS winning between 53 and 57 seats, while the Congress-TDP alliance is expected to get 51-55 seats. 

#7.00 am: Counting of votes to be conducted for the Telangana state Assembly elections at 8 am today.

"The winning candidate will be declared and certificate will be prepared after obtaining clearance from the Election Commission. With the approval of the ECI, the Chief Electoral Officer, will submit the list of winning candidates party-wise to the Governor," he added.

The state recorded a turnout of 7.20 per cent in the assembly election on Friday. 

The office of the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said on Saturday night that the highest turnout of voters was reported in Madhira Assembly constituency at 91.65 per cent.  It was followed by Alair 91.33, Munugode 91.07, Narsapur 90.53, Bhongir 90.53 and Narsampet 90.06.

According to News Nation exit poll, the state could witness a hung assembly, with the TRS may win between 53 and 57 seats, while the Congress-TDP alliance is expected to get 51-55 seats. The majority mark is 61.

The elections in Telangana were supposed to be held in May 2019. But incumbent KCR dissolved the Assembly in September following which the Election Commission announced polls in Telangana with four other states – RajasthanChhattisgarhMadhya Pradesh, and Mizoram

The Congress has stitched together “Prajakutami” (People’s Front) along with the TDP, the TJS and the CPI to take on the ruling TRS, led by caretaker KCR.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi had said the alliance led by his party is confident of winning the election "hands-down" and claimed Rao was showing "signs of nervousness and insecurity" in meetings he addressed as the campaign winded down.

Predicting a fractured poll mandate in Telangana, the BJP claimed Sunday it would play a "vital role" in the formation of the government in the southern state.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi Friday exuded confidence that his party would be successful in the Telangana assembly election.
