Singur(WB):

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said her government was committed to return land to “unwilling” farmers in Singur.

“We will return the land. It is our commitment. The case is in Supreme Court. You will get justice. There is no cause for worry,” the Trinamool Congress supremo said while addressing an election meeting here in Hooghly district.

“As long as I am alive there will not be any injustice to you. We will continue to give rice at Rs 2 per kg,” she said asking “Did CPI-M, Congress, BJP bother to look after you ?”

Tata Motors had shifted their Nano car plant to Gujarat from Singur in the face of Banerjee’s fierce movement against forcible farmland acquisition.

After coming to power in 2011, the Mamata Banerjee government hand enacted Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act, 2011, that allowed it to reclaim the 400 acres land given to Tata Motors.

The Act was, however, struck down by Calcutta High Court when challenged by Tatas and the state government had moved Supreme Court against the High Court order.

Banerjee said, “CPIM had forcibly acquired the farm land. Tapasi Malik was raped and killed. The case is still with CBI but they have not done anything till now.”

In an obvious reference to CPI-M leader Rabin Deb who is contesting from Singur in Hooghly district, Banerjee said “He is talking big here coming from Kolkata.”
