New Delhi:

BMW Motorrad will be launching an updated S 1000 RR on June 27 this year in India. But, before that we have an important news for you. The 2019 BMW S 1000 RR has had its first recall on a certain production batch in Europe, due to a problem in the gearbox, reported NDTV’s carandbike.

It is to be noted that the issue is with a manufacturing tool which had an unnoticed defect, and as a result, an oil hole in the gearbox may not have been executed correctly, which could lead to gearbox damage in the long term.

In a clarification, BMW said that only a certain batch has been affected, around 340 motorcycles in all, of which 113 are intended for the German market. “Only a few of the recalled 340 motorcycles were delivered to customers, and these few customers have already been contacted by BMW Motorrad,” a senior press spokesperson is quoted as saying.

"We are now looking at all 340 of the S 1000 RR produced in the time. For those who were made with the help of that machine, we change the engine for safety's sake," press spokespersons Gerhard Lindner and Tim Diehl-Thiele are quoted as saying by Motorradonline. "The few customers who already have such a motorcycle are now contacted by BMW," Lindner added.

2019 BMW S 1000 RR: Specifications

The 2019 BMW S 1000 RR is a completely new model. It comes with updated design, new bodywork and a new engine with even more performance and new technology.

The BMW S 1000 RR gets 998 cc, in-line four-cylinder engine which produces 204 bhp at 13,500 rpm and a peak torque of 113 Nm at 10,500 rpm. However, the engine now gets a BMW's ShiftCam technology, which is essentially variable valve timing for a wider spread of torque across the rev range, with 100 Nm of torque from as low as 5,500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with an up/down quickshifter and is also equipped with an updated electronics suite.

The updated BMW S 1000 RR comes with four riding modes i.e. Road, Rain, Dynamic and Race, which can be toggled via a new 6.5-inch full-colour TFT instrument panel. Interestingly, the TFT instrument panel also gets Bluetooth connectivity. On the safety front, the new S 1000 RR is equipped with a 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) that includes ABS, Dynamic Traction Control, wheelie control, rear-wheel lift mitigation, throttle response and also electronic suspension adjustment in the Select Package.

Three Race Pro modes are also available at additional cost, but will be standard with either the M, Select and Race packages. The new BMW S 1000 RR is expected to be priced at around Rs 20.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and will go up against the Ducati Panigale V4.
