German luxury carmaker BMW on Wednesday said it has launched a new diesel variant of 6 Series Gran Turismo sedan in India, priced at Rs 63.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Locally produced at the company’s plant in Chennai, the BMW 620d Gran Turismo diversifies the model’s diesel portfolio.

The company is already selling two diesel variants and one petrol trim of the model. “With the launch of the first-ever BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo, we created a new segment in the Indian luxury car market,” BMW Group India President Hans-Christian Baertels said in a statement.

The variant features an exceptionally efficient entry-level diesel engine which further strengthens the portfolio of the model, he added. The vehicle comes with a two-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that enables it to accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in just 7.9 seconds.

Last month, the German automaker introduced 530i M Sport in Indian market, priced at Rs 59.2 lakh (ex-showroom). The model now comes with a petrol engine, is locally produced at Chennai and is BS-VI compliant, BMW said in a statement. The brand-new BMW 530i is currently available in four colour options which are Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mediterranean Blue and Bluestone Metallic.

The two-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 530i produces an output of 185kW or 252 hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in just 6.2 seconds. Talking about the exclusive features, the luxury car is designed with M strip along with an M leather steering wheel and an illuminated M door sill finisher to the M Sport brake with blue callipers bearing the M logo.

The model is also loaded with various safety features including six airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with brake assist, dynamic stability control (DSC), including dynamic traction control (DTC), cornering brake control (CBC), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Side-impact Protection, Run-flat tyres (RFT) with reinforced sidewalls, electronic vehicle immobiliser, crash sensor and integrated emergency spare wheel.
