German luxury carmaker BMW on Wednesday launched the new version of its 3 series sedan priced between Rs 41.4 lakh and Rs 47.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new offering is longer and wider than the previous versions but weighs 55 kgs lighter.

BMW Group India President and CEO Rudratej Singh said the 3 series has been the “heart and soul of BMW” and for over four decades it has been the flag bearer of “sheer driving pleasure”.

In its new avatar, the 3 series have been built to create “impeccable harmony between the driver, the machine and the road”, he added. “It has a very strategic role in our global markets and in India too as every third car we sell in India is a 3 Series,” Singh said.

The new 3 series will be available in two diesel variants powered by a two-litre engine and one petrol variant, also with a two-litre engine, along with eight speed automatic transmission.

While the two diesel options are available at Rs 41.4 lakh and Rs 46.9 lakh, the petrol version is tagged at Rs 47.9 lakh. It has features like wireless mobile charging, Apple CarPlay infotainment with 12.3-inch touch screen.

Besides safety features such as six airbags, the 7th generation 3 series is locally manufactured at the company’s Chennai plant.  Singh said the new 3 series will help in bringing new customers who have not bought BMW before, while also encouraging existing customers to upgrade.

Recently, BMW launched the new 7 Series sedan facelift and all new X7 SUV in the Indian market. It is to be noted that the BMW 7 Series sedan facelift has been launched at Rs 1.22 crore going all the way up to Rs 2.42 crore (ex-showroom India), while the price of the X7 SUV start at Rs 98.90 lakh, all prices ex-showroom India.

2019 BMW 7 Series

The new 2019 BMW 7 Series sedan is grander than ever with its massive chrome kidney grille, sleek headlights and muscular bumper with wheel arches. According to a report published by NDTV’s carandbike, the window glass is now 5.1 mm thicker than before and there is extra insulation inside the rear wheel arches, for a quieter cabin. However, the profile looks almost similar to the outgoing model and there have been subtle changes in the design at the rear.

On the inside, the silhouette of the cabin remains unchanged. However, there have been some technological advancements. The new 2019 BMW 7 Series sedan comes equipped with the latest digital instrument cluster. Also, there will be bespoke options and BMW is giving new leather trims and is claiming even better insulation of the cabin. It further houses wireless charging, in-built perfume, lane monitoring are standard across the range.

The new 2019 BMW 7 Series sedan will be offered in the 740 Li and the 730 Ld trims. The 740 Li comes with a 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder engine which churns out 276 bhp and 450 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to an 8-Speed Steptronic. The 730d uses an in-line six engine that produces 260 bhp and has 620 Nm of torque. The 740 Li will be coupled with an electric motor which will add 111 horses more taking the combined power output to 384 bhp. It is also mated to an 8-Speed Steptronic.

2019 BMW X7

Coming to BMW X7, it will be the new flagship SUV for the automaker. The X7 marks the BMW’s entry in the full-size luxury SUV segment that will see the X7 compete against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, Audi Q7, Range Rover, Lexus LX and more.

Visually, the new X7 will have a massive kidney grille, slim LED headlamps and muscular bumper with wheel arches. On the inside, it comes equipped with including new 12.3-inch dual screens for the instrument console and infotainment system.

Petrol engine options on the new BMW X7 include the 3.0-litre, in-line six-cylinder petrol that churns out 335 bhp. A 4.4-litre, twin-turbo V8 petrol mills out 456 bhp. The SUV further comes equipped with a new generation iDrive unit, gesture control, wireless charging, Harman audio system, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and more. The seats are upholstered in leather with ample of space in the second and third row on offer.

There will be a 3.0-litre six-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine that churns out 335 bhp and 450 Nm of peak torque. There will also the top-of-the-line X7 xDrive M50d with the 3.0-litre six-cylinder, twin-turbo diesel which mills out 394 bhp and 760 Nm of peak torque. Both engines options are mated to an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.
