New Delhi:

Maruti Suzuki’s flagship hatchback Wagon R has been launched in the third generation in the Indian market with new engine options and some cosmetic changes.  A complete new and powerful engine of 1.2-litre has been installed in the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R for the first time, however, the current 1.0-litre variants is still available for the buyers. The popular hatchback has been one of the most loved car by the Indian families for its massive seating space and big head room for tall people because of its tall boy design. Ever since its first look was unveiled on January 24, the prospective buyers have been eagerly waiting for an honest review of the hatch back.

Here, we bring to you a complete and detailed review of Maruti Suzuki Wagon R:

Engine – The Maruti Suzuki has finally introduced a much powerful engine to its popular hatchback. Now, a 1.2-litre K12M engine has been installed in Wagon R which can produce 82 bhp of power @ 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4200 rpm. When the first generation of Wagon R was launched, the company gave it 1.1-litre engine which was later reduced to 1.0-litre in the second generation. The buyers surely felt lack of power in the current 1.0-litre engine but the all-new 1197cc four-cylinder petrol engine gives more punch to its power strength.

Exterior – The new Wagon R is launched with many new cosmetic touches which include front and the rear. In the front, Maruti Suzuki gave much twist in design around the headlamps; a new place for antenna has been placed in the centre front which gives it a much sporty look. In the side look, Wagon R has not been given many changes apart from a matt finish area attached to the rear door. In the rear, it gets new and huge tail lamps, which is quite similar to Ertiga. Even, it gets a chrome finish just above the number plate with ‘Wagon R’ badging.

Interior – The new Wagon R get dual-tone dashboard in Black and Off-White colour, new central AC vents similar to Baleno and new Instrument cluster. It also comes with new and improved Infotainment system which supports Bluetooth as well. On the steering, it gets controls for audio and calls as well.

Now, the company is now offering one Airbag and EBD on all variants as standard.

Talking about its seats, it gets enough seating and headroom space in the rear seats for a tall person. But, it still misses arm rests, cup holders and rear AC vents.

Boot – The new Wagon R comes with almost double boot space as compared to the second generation Wagon R. It now offers 340 litres of boot space which is quite humongous for the car of this segment.

FINAL VERDICT – Should you buy the new Wagon R or not? If yes, then which engine variant will be perfect for you? Well, my verdict is definitely positive for the third generation Maruti Suzuki Wagon R because it offers good space and engine performance and also comes with good resale value in the market. Now, Which engine should you prefer? Generally, the Wagon R buyers are not looking for much power and goes for mileage and more interior space which can be fulfilled with the 1.0-litre engine option. However, the new 1.2-litre engine is same which is used in Swift, Baleno and Ignis and offers more power than the 1.0-litre engine which you will only be able to utilise when you get on highways. So, looking at the price of different variants and engine options, I would highly recommend the buyers
