Tata Motors global sales drop 23 per cent to 82,374 units in May

Tata Motors, a Home-grown automaker, reported that its global sales have fallen 23 per cent to 82,374 units in May 2019 as compared to 1,06,979 units in May 2018. It is to be noted that the figure includes the units sold by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) as well.

The automaker’s worldwide sales of passenger vehicles also went down by 23 per cent to 50,884 units in May 2019 as compared to 66,083 units in the same month last year.

According to the official data given by the Tata Motors, the global sales for JLR were reported at 39,895 units in May 2019. Importantly, the figure includes 4,219 units sold by CJLR, a joint venture between JLR and Chery Automobiles and an unconsolidated subsidiary of the former. In the month, Jaguar sold a total of 13,075 units, while Land Rover sold 26,820 vehicles.

The company further reported that the worldwide sales of its commercial vehicles and Tata Daewoo range went down by 23 per cent to 31,490 units in May 2019 as compared to 40,896 units in May 2018.

Recently, Tata Motors had reported 26 per cent decline in domestic sales to 40,155 units in May. In a statement, the company had said, "Tata Motors commercial and passenger vehicles business sales in the domestic market in May 2019 at 40,155 units witnessed a drop of 26 per cent, as against 54,290 units sold in May 2018, as market sentiments continued to be muted."

With an aim to bring boost in the sales of commercial and passenger vehicles in the India market, the Tata motors had introduced a scheme called 'Great Cars, Great Benefits'. The program covers models like Tiago, Tigor, Nexon, Hexa and Safari Storme. Customers can avail benefits to the tune of Rs 86,000.
