Hyundai, the South Korean carmaker, is all set to launch Kona electric SUV in India on July 9. With the introduction of Hyundai Kona, the automaker will enter into the Indian electric vehicle space.

On the designing front, the upcoming Kona electric SUV will be equipped with an impressive design with closed-off front grille and twin headlight design. It further comes with an LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED rear lamps and 17-inch alloy wheels. Other features it include are 7-inch digital cluster, 8-inch touch screen, paddle shifter (regenerative braking control) and electronic gear shift button.

According to the company, Hyundai Kona comes in two battery options i.e. 39.2 kWh and 64.0 kWh. The power and torque output in standard trim is 136 hp and 395 Nm respectively. The electric SUV has a top speed of 155 kmph, while the driving range is 312 km in a single charge.

On the other hand, the upper trim makes 204 hp and 395 Nm of torque. It has a maximum speed of 167 kmph and can cover a distance of 482 km in a single charge. The electric SUV also gets a permanent-magnet synchronous motor.

As per the details provided by Hyundai, Kona's lithium-ion batteries are liquid-cooled to ensure optimal performance and efficiency. “They can be recharged up to 80 per cent of the capacity in less than an hour with 100 kW DC fast charging station for minimal downtime,” Hyundai said.

However, it is yet to be ascertained that which Hyundai Kona variant will be launched in India. Price of the electric SUV is expected to be somewhere around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Motors India on Monday reported a 3.2 per cent fall in cumulative sales to 58,807 units in June 2019. The company recently launched Venue compact SUV in the country for a starting price of Rs 6.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Within a month of its launch, the compact SUV had received over 33,000 bookings, the company had reported last month. 

Other thane Venue, Hyundai motor has Santro, Grand i10, Elite i20, i20 Active, Xcent, Verna, Elantra, Creta and Tucson in its line up in India. The car maker also has a few new products lined up for a launch this fiscal that will include the Tucson facelift.
