Maruti Suzuki India claims to reduce CO2 emission by 19 per cent in decade

Maruti Suzuki India reduces emission per vehicle by 19 per cent in decade

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India(MSI) on world environment day said it is focusing on new technologies to cut emission per vehicle while enhancing fuel efficiency for it's future models.

The auto giant said that over the last decade it had been able to bring down the average CO2 emission by 19 percent and will invest more in new technologies to strengthen its capability to bring down per vehicle emission.

MSI said it had started an exercise to reduce CO2 emission from 2005-06 by taking 100 as a base for its entire fleet. It came down to 80 in 2016-17 as compared to 98.5 in 2007-08.

"Going forward, we will continue our focus on investing in new technologies and strengthen our capability to bring down emissions per vehicle by enhancing the fuel efficiency of our cars," Maruti Suzuki India Executive Director (Engineering) CV Raman said in a statement.

For "safer and more fuel efficient vehicles" MSI is also focusing on new generation lightweight platforms and its Baleno and New Desire are based the similar Heartect platform.

"We work on platform strategy and keep on rationalising them to offer better value to the customers by better fuel efficiency and better performance, which leads to a reduction in emissions," Raman added.

The company also claimed that "three of the most fuel efficient cars in India" are all from MSI. These are the diesel variants of hatchback Celerio27.62 kmpl), compact sedan Dzire (28.4 kmpl) and mid-sized sedan Ciaz (28.09 kmpl).
