New Delhi:

Maruti Suzuki India on Friday recalled as many as 40,618 units of Wagon R vehicles with the 1-litre petrol engine. Yes, you read it right. It is to be noted that the India’s largest automaker has recalled WagonR to rectify issues with fuel mechanism.

In a statement, Maruti Suzuki India said, “The company is proactively and voluntarily undertaking a recall campaign for certain WagonR (1 litre) vehicles manufactured between November 15 2018 and August 12, 2019.” “The auto major will inspect 40,618 units of the model for a possible issue of fuel hose fouling with metal clamp,” it added.

Starting from August 24, 2019 (today), owners of the suspected vehicles will be contacted by Maruti Suzuki dealers for inspection and replacement of the faulty parts. The automaker had already noted that the replacement will be done free of cost.

Alternatively, customers of suspected WagonR vehicles can visit the Company website and fill in the chassis number to check if their vehicle needs any attention. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicle invoice / registration documents.

It is to be noted that the Wagon R with the bigger engine capacity of 1.2-litres remains unaffected by this recall. Interestingly, recall campaigns are undertaken globally to rectify faults that may be potential safety defects.

The announcement comes a day after Maruti Suzuki XL6 was launched in India. While launching the premium MPV, India’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki announced that it has received 2000 bookings for the car.
