Jet Airways flight stopped at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport over outstanding bills, guests stranded

A Mumbai-found Jet Airways flight was on Wednesday stopped at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam over non-payment of pending bills. 

The flight, stopped by by an European cargo company, has now been delayed by over six hours. The aircraft had flown to Amsterdam from Mumbai Tuesday and was scheduled to return Thursday

"The cargo agent seized Boeing 777-300 ER (VT-JEW) of Jet Airways at the Amsterdam airport as the airline could not clear his dues," the airline source told PTI Wednesday.

Confirming the same, the airline in a statement said: "Jet Airways’ flight 9W 231 AMS BOM of 10th April 2019, has been delayed due to operational reasons. Guests have been informed of same and have been taken care of and served with refreshments during their wait. The airline will further update guests with revised timings."

Due to cash crunch, the airline has been paying only part salaries to its over 16,000 employees which forced a section of its pilots on Tuesday to send a legal notice to the management, which is currently being headed by the lenders led by the State Bank of India. 

Meanwhile, for the third time in a week, the Indian Oil Corporation on Wednesday halted fuel supply to Jet Airways across the nation due to non-payment of outstanding bills. 

The fuel supply was stopped at 3 pm on Wednesday and the situation is likely to remain the same until the oil company does not receive any assurance of payment.

Also, lenders of Jet Airways Wednesday extended the deadline for submission of initial bids for stake purchase in the ailing airline to April 12. The deadline for submission of bids was to end on Wednesday.
