Washington:

Super luxury car maker Rolls-Royce today unveiled plans to come up with a new model, which the company said could cross any terrain and satisfy highly mobile and discerning clients, without actually calling it a sports utility vehicle.

“I am proud to confirm that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is developing an all-new, high-bodied Rolls-Royce designed to satisfy the contemporary, highly mobile lifestyles of our discerning clients around the world,” Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chief Executive Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said.

He added that the new model will fully deliver on the company’s brand’s promise of supreme luxury while at the same time being effortless everywhere.

“We will announce what we are calling this new motor car closer to the time of its launch. I wouldn’t call it an SUV as Rolls-Royce is neither sport nor utility. The words ‘sport’ and ‘utility’ do not fit comfortably into the marque’s very special brand promise,” Mueller-Oetvoes said.

This new model will deliver presence, elegance and purpose wherever its owners choose to be in the world, he added.

The Brtish brand, which is owned by Germany’s BMW, said the car would be built on an all-new aluminium architecture specific to Rolls-Royce.

The company’s Rival Bentley is already working on an SUV model that is likely to be launched in 2016.

In India, the luxury car maker is gearing up to tap the country’s billionaires with new models, including new convertible and a potential SUV.

The company that sells a range of super luxury cars with starting prices ranging from Rs 4.5 crore to Rs 9 crore is confident that India, which is projected to be “home to the fourth-highest number of billionaires in the world by 2023”, to be one of its key markets.
