UK-based cult bike maker Triumph will start selling its motorcycles in India in 2013, more than a year after it had launched seven models in the country, and the company has also appointed Vimal Sumbly as Managing Director for its Indian operations.
Triumph will be assembling some of its models in India at the CKD assembly facility, which is nearing completion at Manesar, Haryana, Triumph said.
The firm, which had announced seven models priced between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 22 lakh for the Indian market at last year's Auto Expo here, said it is currently looking for dealer partners across strategic locations within India.
"In the past few months, we have carefully assessed the market landscape and will be making well-honed efforts to provide our discerning customers with a complete brand experience," Triumph Director Sales & Marketing (Global) Paul Stroud said in a statement.
He further said: "2013 is a very crucial year for Triumph Motorcycles in India and as a company, we are confident about the timing of our market entry."
The company said Vimal Sumbly, former General Manager, Sales, at Bajaj Auto Ltd, will be its new Managing Director for India and spearhead the sales development and growth of Triumph in the country.
"Soon Indian customers will be able to experience these category wining machines on Indian roads, as the brand looks to elevate the motorcycling paradigm," Sumbly said.
The company said it "will be assembling some of its models in India at the CKD assembly facility, which is nearing completion at Manesar, Haryana" without sharing details.
"Triumph is currently looking for dealer partners across strategic locations within India to ensure that customers across the country are able to enjoy the Triumph experience," it added.
In January 2012 at the Auto Expo, Triumph had announced the launch of seven models, including the Bonneville with price tag of Rs 5.5 lakh, Tiger 800XC (Rs 11.4 lakh), Street Triple (Rs 5.75 lakh) and Rocket III Roadster (Rs 22 lakh).
The Leicestershire (UK) headquartered bike maker is known for its cult bikes, including the iconic Bonneville, Daytona 675, and Rocket.
