Chennai-based TVS Motor Co has said it will launch two new motorcycles in Kenya in the next two quarters, while commissioning an assembly plant in the African country.

"We have just completed our trial and training period and will commence regular production of out TVS Star series of motorcycles from today. We also intend to launch two new motorcycles over the next two quarters," TVS Motor Co President and CEO K N Radhakrishnan said in a statement.

The new motorcycles are specifically developed and designed keeping the needs of the African consumer in mind and will be assembled at the newly inaugurated facility at Nakuru, the company said.

TVS has been present in Kenya for over a decade and is currently in partnership with Car & General, Nairobi for distribution of its range of two-wheelers and with Abson Motors, Mombasa for sales of three-wheelers.

"We currently command a good market share of around 27 oer cent in the Kenyan market among competing equivalent products, and with a fully functional assembly line and introduction of new products, we plan to grow our market share to 40 per cent," Radhakrishnan said.

He said the company currently has more than 75 dealers, 300 service points and around 2,500 trained mechanics across Kenya.

Earlier this month, India's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotorCorp had announced its foray into the Kenyan market by launching its brands and products. It has also set up an international assembly plant in the country.
