The last Parliament Session of the Narendra Modi is beginning shortly. President Ram Nath Kovind is addressing both House now. Finance Minister Piyush Goyal will present the interim budget tomorrow and the government may announce a number of welfare measures aimed at various sections of society, as the ruling BJP-National Democratic Alliance readies itself for the general election, likely in April-May. The government is keen on the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which seeks to grant persecuted minorities- including Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Christians - from a few neighbouring countries Indian citizenship.

Under Jan Dhan Yojana, 34 crore people have opened a bank account & almost every family in the country is connected to the banking system. According to an international agency, 55% of the total bank accounts opened between 2014-2017 were opened in India itself, says President Kovind.

Despite nationalisation, banking sector was not doing any good for the masses, especially the economically weaker section. My government’s Jan Dhan Yojana has changed the scenario, says President Kovind.

My government is specially focussing on development of villages across India, says President Kovind.

Several talented individuals have got opportunities under ‘Khelo India’ initiative, says President Kovind.

To bring out our Muslim daughters from misery, my government is consistently trying to get the Triple Talaq Bill passed in Rajya Sabha, says President Kovind.

Citizenship Amendment Bill will make it easier to provide Indian citizenship to those who had to take refuge in India after facing oppression somewhere else. They were not at fault, they were victims of situations like that, says President Kovind.

My government is building key infrastructure projects at a record pace, says President Kovind. 

Healthcare is my government’s topmost priority. I am happy to inform you that the benefits of government’s schemes are reaching poorest of the poor, says President Kovind.

Hailing the landmark healthcare programme ‘Ayushman Bharat Yojana’, which was dubbed as ‘Modicare’, President Kovind says, “We know that expenses on health makes a poor even poorer. My govt understood this & started Ayushman Bharat Yojana. In last 4 months more than 10 Lakh poor people availed health benefits in hospitals under this scheme.”

My government is committed to corruption-free India, says President Kovind.

From Madurai to Pulwama, Modi govt is making new AIIMS, says President Kovind.

President Kovind begins his address by listing out the achievements of the Modi government. “The country was going through a phase of uncertainty before the (2014) elections). After the election, my government took up the initiative to form a 'New India.',” says President Kovind.
