Sensex on Sunday reached new record of 21,321.53, up 124.72 points, in the special Muhurat session to mark the start of Samvat year 2070. The index had climbed to an all-time high of 21,293.88 in intra-day trade on November 1 but closed at 21,196.81.
The Nifty had registered its all-time high of 6,357.10 on January 8, 2008 and a record close of 6,312.45 on November 5, 2010.
Mahurat trading session began on the scheduled time of 06:15pm. Sensex started the trading session with a gain of 80 points and continued the momentum.
Major gainers were Tata Motors (1.48 pc), Jindal Steel (1.35 pc), BHEL (1.25 pc), Sun Pharma (1.12 pc), Tata Steel (1.09 pc), Maruti Suzuki (1.05 pc), ONGC (1.04 pc), Hindalco (1.00 pc) and SBI (0.72 pc).
The trading session is expected to end by 07:30 pm.
The NSE 50-share Nifty also rose by 18.20 points or 0.29 per cent to 6,325.40 at 1835 hrs.
The share market has remained in a positive mood in the past few sessions amid continued foreign fund buying and
renewed optimism about a turnaround in the economy.
