Blow to common man in middle of elections as LPG cylinder prices hiked from today

In a big blow to the common man in between the Lok Sabha elections, the prices of subsidised and non-subsidised LPG cylinder were increased with effect from Wednesday, May 1, according to data from Indian Oil Corporation. While the non-subsidised LPG prices were increased by Rs 6 per cylinder in Mumbai and Delhi, the subsidised cooking gas rates were hiked by 28 paise per cylinder in Delhi and 29 paise per cylinder in Mumbai.

From today onwards,  per cylinder (non-subsidised) LPG prices stood at Rs 712.5 in Delhi, Rs 684.5 in Mumbai, Rs 738.5 in Kolkata and Rs 728 in Chennai. The subsidised LPG rates in Delhi stood at Rs 496.14 per cylinder, while the same was at Rs 493.86 per cylinder in Mumbai. In Kolkata, consumers will now have to pay Rs 499.29 for each LPG gas cylinder (subsidised), while in Chennai they will now pay Rs 484.02 per subsidised cylinder.

The latest hike in the prices of cooking gas is all set to burn a big hole in the pocket of common man, already facing the issue of high rates of everyday commodities.
