New Delhi:

With the ongoing battle between the major telecom giants to grab a significant chunk of the 2G segment, Reliance Communications launched Rs 149 bucket plan offering unlimited voice calls with 300 MB of data for a flat Rs 149 in a clear market expansion bid.

Christened Rs 149 Unlimited’, the calling plan offers customers unlimited outgoing talk-time to any phone across any telecom network in the country, including STD calls, for Rs 149 a month.

RCom’s Rs 149 bucket plan resembles a similar Jio tariff plan, but can be activated on any phone – 2G, 3G, or 4G -- unlike Jio’s, which requires a 4G VoLTE handset.

“The new unlimited plan is set to change the dynamics of mobile recharges in India, as customers move away from a traditional revenue per minute tariff model to a service subscription model based on ARPU,” said RCom’s co-CEO, Gurdeep Singh in an official statement.

The new tariff plan went live in 17 RCom circles, and will not be available in the five eastern markets -- West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Assam and Northeast -- where where the telco does not have 2G airwaves.

The ‘149 Unlimited’ Plan, which will be available across 2G, 3G and 4G technology platforms, is targeted at incentivising 2G, 3G and 4G phone owners to migrate to RCom.
