BSE, NSE have announced trading holiday on October 21

New Delhi:

The Indian share markets will remain closed on Monday due to Maharashtra Assembly polls. Both Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) have announced trading holiday on October 21 owing to the assembly elections. The share trading will resume on Tuesday. So, if you are trying to search 'Is stock market open today' or 'will stock market open today' the answer is no.

In a notification, NSE said, "On account of assembly elections in Maharashtra which is scheduled to be held on October 21, 2019, members are requested to note that exchange hereby notifies trading holiday for the capital market, futures & options and currency derivative segments."

The Commodity Derivative segment will remain open only for the evening session, it added.  Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and National Commodity and Derivative Exchange (NCDEX) will start trading at 17:00 hrs and will close at 23:30 hrs on Monday.

Earlier on Friday, Indian stock markets closed with gains for the sixth day in a row, over a strong inflow of foreign funds owing to a deal between the UK and the EU on Brexit, besides progress in US-China trade talks. The Sensex closed 246.32 points higher at 39,298.38, while broader Nifty settled 75.50 points higher at 11,661.85.

The equity markets have clocked their longest gaining streak since March 22, boosted by foreign fund inflows and positive developments on the Brexit front. The Sensex gained as much as 3.74 per cent - or 1,417.98 - and the Nifty added 427.30 points (3.80 per cent) in the six-day period.
