Bhubaneswar:

Claiming that population of economically backward people in Odisha has risen drastically during BJD rule, BJP on Thursday accused Naveen Patnaik government of providing fake reports and data to the Planning Commission to acquire false praise about development.

"Corruption in poverty eradication programmes, rise inunemployment, ineffective agricultural policies and anti-farmer attitude, incompetence in carrying out proper land acquisition and rehabilitation programmes causing pull out of companies are developments of this government," alleged BJP Odisha Pradesh President K V Singhdeo in a statement.

The Government has failed to use central funds forpoverty eradication for which the State has lost crores of rupees, he said adding, in 2000 Odisha was in debt of Rs 18,000 crore which has increased to more than Rs 45,000 crore because of loan taken at high interest rate.

"Today CBI is investigating the MGNRGA programme in six different districts of the State," said Singh deo addingclaim about employment opportunities for engineers is humiliating as engineering students from more than 100 engineering colleges in the State are moving to cities like Bangaluru in search for job.

The BJP leader alleged that faulty agricultural policy had deprived farmers of deserving price of their produce. Earlier, farmers were growing Jute for economic purpose and were maintaining family by growing Rice and Pulsesbut now jute cultivation is fading away.

The farmers in Odisha are overburdened with debt as they are not getting remunerative price and the government's policy of rice at Rs 1 per kg has increased the debt of the State.

Hitting out at BJD Government for supplying river water meant for irrigation to industries, he said all these have made farmers' life miserable.
