In Gujarat, a woman inspector of Ahmedabad Rural police was suspended on Monday for breaking social distancing norms, which is meant to fight the novel coronavirus outbreak. The development comes after a video of a woman inspector playing Garba with her staff and some residents went viral on social media.
At least three days ago, Inspector Anila Brahmbhatt, some policemen and residents of a complex played Garba on the lawns. The video had gone viral on social media. According to a PTI report, Bopal police had hired a singer to entertain people who were bored due to the lockdown.

“Inspector Anila Brahmbhatt of Bopal police station was suspended for breaking social distancing norms,” PTI quoted Ahmedabad District Superintendent of Police RV Asari as saying.
"While her intention was noble, she went overboard and started playing Garba herself with others. It gave the wrong message to people. We must maintain social distancing, especially when the police is taking strict measures to enforce the lockdown," RV Asari said.
India saw an increase of 704 COVID-19 cases and 28 deaths in the last 24 hours- the biggest rise so far in India. The total number of positive coronavirus cases in India stood at 4,281 on Monday evening including 3,851 active cases, 318 cured/discharged/migrated people and 111 deaths, according to the latest updates by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
In Gujarat, the total number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 146 on Monday, after 18 new cases were reported in past 24 hours. The death count in the state rose to 12 due to the coronavirus. The Gujarat government declared 15 localities in four cities — Ahmedabad (8), Surat (3), Bhavnagar (2) and Vadodara (2) — as hotspots for the coronavirus infection, and decided to completely seal the areas, under the cluster containment strategy.
It is worth mentioning here that the novel coronavirus, which originated in China, has claimed thousands of lives across the world. Over 9.5 lakh people have been infected with the coronavirus across the globe, with the global death toll crossing 46,000. With no known cure so far for the coronavirus, the deadly disease has become a major issue for the entire world.
