Swine flu in Surat: Four patients on ventilator, number of cases surge to 62

Surat:

With four new cases of swine flu in Surat, the number of people affected with the H1N1 virus has surged to 62 in the district, doctors said on Wednesday. As many as 28 patients have been admitted to hospitals and among them four are on life-support system, deputy health commissioner Dr Ashish Mehta said. Six patients, including four women and a child, were admitted to various hospitals across the city on Monday as well. however, no new cases were reported from Surat (Rural).

Doctors and medical officers fear that the number of cases could surge in the coming weeks. The Surat Municipal Corporation has given an order to Garba organisers to not allow patients with swine flu to enter the venue during the Navratri celebrations. Screening facilities will be put up at venues.

According to doctors, mass gatherings and a change in weather are the major causes for the spread of the H1N1 virus. The symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of general flu and patients suffer from fever, cough, sore throat, runny or blocked nose, body ache, headache, fatigues and chills. Tami flu vaccines should be administered to prevent the occurrence of swine flu.
