Seven cops among 18 accused of raping minor girl, her mother in Haryana

Kaithal (Haryana):

Seven policemen were booked for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl and her mother in the Kaithal village of Haryana, the police said on Thursday. A case was also registered against 11 more for supporting the main preparator, an ASI rank police official.

The victim told that police that the main accused, who was an ASI rank police official, raped her and her mother in their house last month, while others accused, including a sarpanch and former sarpanch of the village, stood outside and supported him, a senior police official said.

A case under IPC sections pertaining to punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful confinement, criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, was registered on Wednesday against the 18 people on the basis of the girl’s complaint. Among the policemen who were booked were a head constable and a constable-rank official.

Kaithal Superintendent of Police Aastha Modi said on Thursday that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by a DSP-rank officer was constituted to further investigate the case.

About three months ago, the minor girl had lodged a molestation complaint against her father, but she had later retracted her allegations, the police said.
