New Delhi:

DMK chief M Karunanidhi, who was rushed to the Kauvery hospital following a complaint of urinary tract infection on Saturday, is now better and recovering well with active medical support, Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami said on Monday.

Palaniswami's statement came moments after he visited the hospital to inquire about Karunanidhi's health. "I have just met him in Kauvery hospital, he is better and is recovering well," the chief minister was quoted outside the hospital.

"A medical team is attending on him... Me and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam along with DMK party working president M K Stalin and Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi visited him in person," Palaniswami added.

Several state ministers along with Law minister C Ve Shanmugam were also present in the hospital and enquired his well being. Earlier, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu also paid a visit to Karunanidhi in the hospital.

On Sunday, a medical bulletin released by the Kauvery hospital stated, "There was a transient setback in the clinical condition of DMK president M Karunanidhi. With active medical support, his vital signs are normalising. He continues to be closely monitored and treated by the panel of expert doctors".

The hospital is scheduled to release another bulletin on Monday.

Meanwhile, scores of anxious DMK workers continue to throng the hospital and have been praying for a quick recovery. Anticipating a breakdown of law and order, the security has been beefed up outside the hospital.

On Sunday, Police also resorted to a mild baton charge as cadres did not disperse from the area to make way for DMK leaders to leave the hospital.
