HI contributes Rs 10 lakh for Uttarakhand flood victims

Hockey India on Tuesday contributed Rs. 10 lakh to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to help the flood victims of Uttarakhand.

"Hockey India conveys its deepest concerns for the affected people of the Uttarakhand tragedy and being a national sports body we feel our duty to contribute in the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund," Narinder Batra, Secretary General, HI said.

"It's a small gesture to help the state during this calamity. Hockey India is committed to making any similar contribution in the future also, whenever it is needed for the cause of humanity," he added.

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh yesterday had announced that he would contribute Rs 10 lakh to the flood victims, saying, "A part of it will be donated to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund and the remaining part will go to the Punjab government's relief fund."

Harbhajan could empathise with the victims as he himself was stranded in Joshimath for a few days after the tragedy struck.
