As many as 1.35 lakh students of Delhi University will decide the fate of 23 candidates as they vote for DU Students’ Union (DUSU) elections 2018 on Wednesday. In a three-way fight, 23 candidates from student unions of various political parties, including the Congress, the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party, are contesting the elections for several posts in the students’ body.

Senior faculty members have been posted as observers at the centres and around 700 electronic voting machines (EVMs) have been installed, an official said.

The polling, which began at 8.30 am at the morning collages, will end at 1 pm, while it will be held from 3 pm to 7.30 pm in the evening colleges.

While the Congress-affiliated NSUI’s poll promises included “Institute of Eminence” tag for Delhi University and thalis for Rs 10 in the campus canteens, the ABVP – BJP’s student wing – has promised to spend 50 per cent of the union’s budget on women and install sanitary pad vending machines inside college campuses.
