Noida Police on Sunday arrested four members of a family from Bangladesh, who were illegally residing in Chijarsi village in Noida, said police official.
According to reports, the incident came to light after the accused applied for the Indian passport by using fake documents, including PAN card and Aadhar card.
When the police conducted an inspection at their house for passport verification, the neighbours informed that they were illegal immigrants secretly living in Noida, police said.
During an interrogation, the accused admitted they were original residents of Khulna in Bangladesh near the Indian border, they said.
The accused had also revealed that they have been living in India for nearly a decade, police said.
“However, when they applied for the Indian passport, discrepancies were found during the verification process, following which it was revealed that the four had crossed over the border from Bangladesh into West Bengal nearly eight to 10 years back,” said Akhilesh Tripathi, station house officer (SHO), Phase-3 police station.
According to police, the accused were trying to make passports for travel and visit their relatives in Bangladesh.
A case has been booked against them under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and the Foreigners Act, 1946, said a police officer.
