The residents of national capital continued to breath polluted air on Thursday as major pollutants PM 2.5 (177) and PM 10 (122) remained 'Unhealthy' in areas around Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium and India Gate, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data. The prevailing pollution situation in Delhi-NCR is mainly caused by the stubble burning in neighbouring Haryana and Punjab. Every year, Delhi faces the wrath of stubble burning by farmers of the neighbouring states as their respective governments have failed to provide them any other alternative to get rid of crop waste.

Earlier on Wednesday, the air quality slumped to a 'very poor' level. Delhi's overall Air Quality Index (299) also bordered "very poor" levels. The AQI at Mundka, Dwarka Sector 8, Delhi Technological University, Anand Vihar, Wazirpur, Rohini, Bawana, Ashok Vihar, Nehru Nagar, and Jahangirpuri was 368, 362, 355, 328, 323, 323, 320, 319, 319 and 318.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had last month announced that the third edition of the road rationing scheme would be implemented from November 4 to November 15 as part of measures to combat high-level air pollution. During the scheduled 12-day scheme, vehicles will ply alternately on odd and even dates as per their registration numbers.
The odd-even scheme will continue to have the prior exemptions as seen in the last two phases of the scheme. This means that women drivers, two-wheelers and emergency vehicles will continue to be exempted from the scheme. In addition to this, vehicles along with a VVIPs such as the President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India among others will also be exempted from the car rationing scheme.
