Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the Anaj Mandi fire. The prime minister has also approved Rs 50,000 each for those seriously injured in the fire, his office said. The amount will be paid from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund, the PMO said in a tweet.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to be given to families of those dead and Rs 1 lakh each to those injured. The expense of medical treatment of those injured to be borne by the government. BJP would also provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to families of those who have lost their lives and Rs 25,000 to the injured.

Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs each to the victims of the incident who hail from Bihar.

Ex-gratia is an amount paid not as part of a legal, but moral obligation.

The fire incident in a three-storey building having manufacturing units, in north Delhi's Anaj Mandi area around 5.22 am, leaving at least 43 people, mostly labourers, dead, police said.
