New Delhi:

The services of Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) will be partially curtailed on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, as part of the security arrangements for the Beating Retreat ceremony. As per the official guidelines by DMRC officials, metro schedules at two stations of Yellow Line have been partially modified for Tuesday. The changes are as follows:

On the occasion of the Beating Retreat ceremony, the entry and exit at Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan metro stations will remain closed between 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Apart from Gate No 1, rest of the entry and exit points will be closed at Central Secretariat Station from 2:00 pm to 4:00 PM. Hence, passengers who need to navigate between these routes are advised to opt for another connectivity option during the above-mentioned period.

However, the interchanging of trains from Line 2 to Line 6 (Kashmiri Gate to Raja Nahar Singh) and vice versa will be allowed at Central Secretariat Metro station during the time. Normal services at these stations will be restored at 6:30 PM.

Metro services at all other section (Blue Line, Red Line, Pink Line, Green Line, Violet Line) of the DMRC will remain as usual on Tuesday.

Beating the Retreat ceremony, organised at the Vijay Chowk on January 29 every year, marks the culmination of the four-day-long Republic Day celebrations. In early 1950s Major Roberts of the Indian Army developed the unique ceremony of display by the massed bands.

The ceremony is the continuation of the century-old military tradition when the troops ceased fighting, sheathed their arms and withdrew from the battlefield and returned to the camps at sunset at the sounding of the Retreat.
