Delhi Police Head Constable Ratan Lal's Family To Get Rs 1 Crore Compensation, Govt Job: Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said the AAP government will give Rs 1 crore to the family of police head constable Ratan Lal, who was killed during a communal violence in northeast Delhi on Monday over amended citizenship law, and a government job to a kin. “I want to assure the family of Delhi Police Head Constable Ratan Lal ji that we will take care of them. We will give a compensation of Rs 1 crore and a job to a member of his family,” Kejriwal in the state assembly.

Kejirwal had visited Lal's family on Tuesday. “Politics of hatred and violence will not be tolerated. Common man of Delhi did not indulge in violence; outsiders, some political elements are involved in it,” Kejriwal said.

On Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote to the deceased cop’s wife, conveying his condolences and said the entire country was with the family of the brave policeman in this hour of grief.

In his letter to Lal's wife Poonam Devi, Shah said he had made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

“Your brave husband was a dedicated policeman who faced tough challenges. As a true soldier he made the supreme sacrifice to serve this country. I pray that God gives you strength to bear this sad and untimely loss,” the home minister wrote.

Shah said the entire country was with the family in this hour of grief. The head constable was among 23 people killed in spiralling violence over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi.

Frenzied protesters torched houses, shops, vehicles and a petrol pump, besides hurling stones at security personnel. Lal hailed from Tehawali village at Fatehpur-Shekhawati Tehsil in Sikar district of Rajasthan.
