New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today hit out at the Opposition for creating trouble in the national capital. Kejriwal said that Delhi’s peace was being deliberately disturbed ahead of the Assembly elections. Without taking any name, Kejriwal said that “everybody knows who can incite riots.” He also issued an appeal to the citizens of Delhi to exercise restraint and not give into the fake news and misinformation nexus. “An attempt is being made to drag AAP's name in the recent incidents. Why will AAP do this? How will we be benefit? We all should maintain peace. Only those who are fearing defeat in the upcoming elections are inciting riots,” Kejriwal added. Kejriwal claimed that the AAP was headed for a huge victory in Delhi, which has scared the "Opposition".

The statement comes day after Delhi’s Seelampur turned into a battlefield following the violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Section 144 has been imposed in the Northeast district, prohibiting the assembly of more than four people in the area. "Section-144 of the  Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been imposed in Northeast District," Delhi Joint Commissioner of Police was quoted as saying by ANI. The Delhi Police is also patrolling in the Seelampur area, which had witnessed violent protests and stone-pelting on Tuesday.

The Delhi Police has registered three FIRs in connection with the Tuesday violence. Two FIRs have been filed in connection with the violence on Jafrabad road. Both these FIRs have been filed under sections of rioting and vandalization of the Indian penal Code. Five people have been arrested after the violence. The police have yet not revealed whether these individuals have any criminal background or not. Third FIR is in connection with the violence in Brijpuri area of Seelampur, which saw late night protests.

On Tuesday, angry protesters demanding scrapping of the amended Citizenship Act pelted stones at police personnel, torched several motor bikes and vandalised two police booths as well as three buses in Seelampur, leaving 21 people injured in fresh violence in the city.

The national capital continued to reel under swirling agitation against the alleged "divisive" law with thousands of students hitting streets near the Jamia Millia Islamia, where a violent protest had occurred on Sunday, and elsewhere for what they called "protecting the soul of India".
