Fire Breaks Out At ESIC Hospital In Noida’s Sector-24, Patients Evacuated

A fire broke out at the ESIC Hospital on Thursday morning and firefighting was underway, officials said. The blaze broke out in the basement of the seven-storey hospital building located in Sector 24, a police official said. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the Fire Department was alerted about it around 8 am, the official said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be known.

Around 100-120 people were present at the hospital at the time, officials said, adding that they were evacuated safely from the building. The patients have also been moved to nearby hospitals, they said.

Earlier, a man died in a massive fire that broke out in Delhi’s Patparganj Industrial Area. The fire department has confirmed the death of a man. As many as 32 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. News Nation has learnt that the first call of distress was received by the fire department at 2:48 am. The blaze that started from ground floor a building soon reached the third floor.

The building houses a printing factory. The industrial area located in the east Delhi has several car showrooms and other corporate offices. This is the second such incident of fire in Delhi in last 10 days. Earlier on January 2, a blaze had gutted a battery factory in the Peeragarhi area. A fireman had lost his life while 14 others were rescued.

Anaj Mandi Fire That Still Haunts Delhi

Last year, Delhi witnessed a massive fire in Anaj Mandi area that claimed 43 lives. The Filmistan fire was the worst that the National Capital has witnessed since the Uphaar tragedy that killed 59 people. The tragic incident prompted visit from high-profile politicians, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Union ministers Hardeep Puri and Harsh Vardhan, Lok Sabha MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Delhi Industry Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa to the LNJP Hospital.

Almost all the deceased were migrant labourers hailing from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Police and fire department officials said many of the fatalities occurred due to suffocation as the people were sleeping when the fire started at around 5 am on the second floor of the building that did not have fire safety clearance and was packed with combustible material like card boards.

It took over 150 firefighters nearly five hours to douse the blaze. As many as 63 people were pulled out from the building. While 43, including one minor, died, 16 were injured. Two fire department personnel were hurt while carrying out rescue work, officials said.
