New Delhi:

Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir has written to the Delhi Police complaining about alleged death threats. The East Delhi MP wrote to the deputy commissioners of Shahdara and Central districts about the threats received by him on Friday. He urged police to ensure the safety and security of his family. In the complaint, a copy of which is with the News Nation, the former Indian cricket team captain alleged that he was getting death threats from a caller using international number. Gautam Gambhir cruised to a comfortable win from East Delhi seat as BJP swept Delhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. He defeated Congress candidate Arvinder Singh Lovely by 3,91,222 votes.

In his cricketing career, Gautam Gambhir has scored 4,154 runs in 58 Test matches with 9 centuries. Gambhir also appeared in 147 ODIs (11 centuries) and 37 T20Is for India scoring 5,238 and 932 runs respectively. Gautam was behind the Indian team's victories in 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 World Cup. He played the crucial knocks of 75 and 97 in the finals of both the tournaments respectively.

Recently, Gambhir was embroiled in a ‘jalebi’ controversy. Gambhir was seen enjoying the Indian sweets when he was scheduled to attend a key meet on discussing anti-pollution measures. Gautam Gambhir was pictured enjoying 'Jalebis' in Indore as part of commentary team in the ongoing India Bangladesh cricket series. Ironically, Gambhir was particularly critical of the Arvind Kejriwal-led city government's handling of the air pollution. After the meeting was postponed and the picture emerged, netizens including many AAP leaders attacked Gambhir for not prioritising his duties as an MP. "Delhi is choking and Gambhir is busy enjoying in Indore," said a tweet from AAP.

Gambhir responded with a long letter, claiming his "work will speak for itself." He put out a post saying, "Agar mujhe gaali dene se Dilli ka pollution kam hoga to AAP jee bhar ke gaali dijiye. (If abusing me reduced pollution in Delhi, then AAP (you) can abuse me as much it wants)."

The Lok Sabha MP took to Twitter to list out a slew of projects, in the field of garbage management, education and hygiene, being undertaken in his constituency.
