A 25-year-old woman, who used to work at an insurance firm in Gurugram, allegedly committed suicide at her rented apartment in Ardee City area on Friday. Her body was discovered by her sister on Saturday morning. Originally belonging from Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura, Nisha Pathak’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan, a Times of India report said today.
Pathak’s father has filed a police complaint saying that his daughter’s boyfriend is the reason behind the suicide. In his complaint, he said that it was the troubles in the relationship and the problems with him that forced Nisha to take this extreme step. The father said that his daughter ender her life as her boyfriend had refused to marry her. According to Times of India, an FIR under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered by the Gurugram Police.
According to the World Health Organization, close to 800 000 people die due to suicide every year, which is one person every 40 seconds. Suicide is a global phenomenon and occurs throughout the lifespan. Effective and evidence-based interventions can be implemented at population, sub-population and individual levels to prevent suicide and suicide attempts. There are indications that for each adult who died by suicide there may have been more than 20 others attempting suicide.
