The first commercial flight from the Hindon civil airport, which is adjacent to the IAF's Hindon airbase, will operate from Friday when a nine-seater plane operated by Air Heritage will take off for Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district. The Hindon airport is the second airport in NCR after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to sources, flight operations will start for Shimla from the Hindon civil airport in November. Another report said, Star Air service will start regular flights between Hubballi in Karnataka and Ghaziabad from November 6.

District Magistrate Ajay Shanker Pandey took stock of the arrangements and instructed police to set up a check post. He instructed the chief engineer of electricity department to ensure uninterrupted power supply at terminal.

Heritage plans to have six flights a week on Hindon-Pithoragarh sector. It had won bids to operate two daily flights on this sector and may do so when the second aircraft joins the fleet in a month.

Initially, passengers flying in and out of Hindon on the first two routes will not be able to check in baggage. They can only fly with a hand bag weighing up to 7kg. Both Heritage Aviation and Star Air have the same policy of not allowing check-in baggage on their flights.
