New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday "formally" invited Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for an open debate at a public place where people could also participate and directly ask questions.

Kejriwal said though the Chief Minister had refused his earlier offer for a public debate he decided to invite her formally after some editors advised him to do so.

In a letter to Dikshit, Kejriwal said, "I am writing you this letter as some of the editors suggested that I should invite you formally. I am inviting you formally and if you find it right then we should also ask Dr Harsh Vardhan to participate on behalf of BJP."

The AAP leader said that he had asked her for an open debate on several occasion as he believes that debates should be held among the parties participating in elections, so that public could ask direct questions to their representatives, but she had refused.

He said if the Chief Minister was ready for debate they could sit and decide on the form of debate and who would be the conductor.

"My only suggestion is that such debate should not be held in a television studio but in Ramlila ground or any other pubic places where citizen of Delhi could come and directly ask questions," Kejriwal said.
