New Delhi:

Taking a swipe at Manoj Tiwari's demand for Register of Citizens (NRC) implementation in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said if NRC is implemented, the BJP leader will have to first leave the city. In the past, Delhi BJP chief Tiwari has on several occasions demanded that NRC should be implemented in the national capital like Assam.

Responding to a question at a press conference, the chief minister said, "If NRC is implemented in Delhi, Manoj Tiwari will have to first leave Delhi."

Last month, Tiwari had said that the situation in Delhi had become "dangerous" due to the presence of a "large number" of illegal immigrants including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas who have been found involved in "criminal activities".

Tiwari hit back at Kejriwal's comment calling it 'shameful'. Tiwari said that any Indian can live anywhere in the country. He added that people from UP-Bihar are not outsiders.

"People who have migrated from other states are considered as foreigners by you? You want to chase them out from Delhi, you're one among them. If this is his intention then I think he has lost his mental stability. How does an IRS officer not know what NRC is?"

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Wednesday announced a new scheme under which people residing as tenants in Delhi will be able to avail power subsidy.

Announcing the 'Mukhyamantri Kirayedar Bijli Meter Yojna', Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said till now, tenants were not able to avail the Delhi government's power subsidy scheme under which there is no charge for the electricity consumption of up to 200 units.

"It was a long-pending demand of tenants in Delhi. Tenants will have to get prepaid meter installed after depositing security money of Rs 3,000," Kejriwal told reporters.

Under the new scheme, tenant will have to submit rent agreement or rent receipt and proof of address of the residence where they are residing.
