New Delhi:

The financial capital Mumbai is bracing for ‘really heavy rains’ with monsoon to hit Maharashtra and Goa in next 48 hours, three days before is scheduled arrival, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.

According to the private weather forecast agency Skymet, rain over the western coast, especially in Mumbai, may start on Thursday and increase over the weekend.

“The period between June 6th and June 12, could be the worse spell since 26 July 2005, when Mumbai recorded 900mm in a day,” Skymet CEO Jatin Singh tweeted on Monday.

"Warnings should be issued now. Just stay indoors," Singh advised people in another tweet.

On Saturday, the capital city of Maharashtra witnessed “pre-monsoon” showers which resulted in water logging at several areas across the city.

Monsoon, which made an onset in Kerala on May 29, three days before its scheduled arrival, was advancing towards Tamil Nadu, and southwest, west-central, east-central, northeast of Bay of Bengal, and most of the northeastern states.
