Ghaziabad:

A new auto service for NCR area was today launched here which will cater to the need of passengers of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi.

Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Durga Prasad Yadav flagged off a contingent of 28 three-wheelers during inauguration of the ‘NCR auto sewa’ at Mahamaya stadium here.

“After a prolonged wait of more than 20 years, a mutual consent has been arrived between Transport Secretaries of UP, Haryana and Delhi and finally the dream of NCR auto service has come true,” said the minister.

State Transport Secretary K Ravinderan said these autos have been fitted with state-of-the-art technology gadgets such as GPRS and GPS systems.

For security of women passengers emergency ‘SOS’ (save our souls) buttons have been fixed in the electronic auto meters, he said, adding that whenever a woman in distress will press the ‘SOS’ button, the nearest stationed PCR van will get an alert message, location and the number of the auto.

Passenger travelling in these autos can verify the distance travelled and amount charged by the auto driver by pushing a button on the electronic auto meter. He can also get a printout of the bill. The meters fitted in autos are “temper proof”, he said.

Ghaziabad transport authority will issue 5,000 inter-state permits soon for these autos to ply to and fro between Delhi and Haryana. Near about 25 thousands daily commuters will be benefited by these autos in the future, he said.
