Massive Fire At Mundka Godown In Delhi, 21 Fire Tenders At Spot

New Delhi:

A massive fire broke out in a plywood factory in Delhi's Mundka area on Saturday morning. At least 21 fire tenders were at the spot trying to douse the fire, which quickly spred to a bulb factory opposite to the plywood factory. As per the initial reports, there were no casualties due to the incident. A team of police also rushed to the spot and evacuated nearby buildings.

A call about the blaze was received at around 5 am, after which 20 fire tenders were sent to the spot, a Delhi fire services official said.

Last week, At least 43 people were killed when a massive fire ripped through a four-storey building housing illegal manufacturing units in north Delhi's congested Anaj Mandi area. According to officials the building did not have fire safety clearance and was packed with combustible material like cardboards. Police have arrested the property owner Rehan and his manager.

Police and fire department officials said many of the fatalities occurred due to suffocation as the people were sleeping when the fire started at around 5 am on the second floor of the building. The Anaj Mandi fire tragedy was the worst fire accident in the national capital since the 1997 Uphaar cinema blaze that claimed 59 lives.
