No Odd-Even Rule On November 11-12 In View Of Guru Nanak Dev Anniversary: Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi:

The Odd-Even scheme will not apply in Delhi on November 11 and 12 in view of Guru Nanak Dev's 550th birth anniversary celebrations, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday. With November 10 already announced as no Odd-Even day, the car rationing scheme that came into effect from November 4, will not three days exemption. "In the light of celebrations of 550th Guru Nanak Dev ji anniversary, Delhi govt has decided that Odd Even scheme won't apply on 11th and 12th November," Kejriwal said.

To combat the rising air pollution in the national capital, the Kejriwal government had announced the third edition of Odd-Even from November 4. Under the car rationing scheme, vehicles with odd last digit in the registration numbers will ply on odd days and those with even last digits on even days.

According to a government claim, around 15 lakh vehicles went off roads due to the scheme as people opted for car-pooling and public trasnport. This helped bringing the Delhi air pollution significantly down from emergency level, the Delhi government said.

Hundreds of teams of Delhi Traffic Police and the transport and revenue departments have been deployed for a strict implementation of the odd-even scheme. Around 400 traffic inspectors and assistant traffic inspectors (ATIs) of the DTC and the transport department will be deployed in two shifts during the drive.

The ATIs and revenue department officials will issue challans to the violators as well as ensure a proper enforcement of the scheme at 200 locations identified by the transport department, according to a government official. Delhi Traffic Police has deployed 200 teams to ensure a proper implementation of the scheme and around 5,000 civil defence volunteers have been trained for deployment across the city to create awareness about it.

Violators will be fined Rs 4,000. Head constables and officers of higher ranks in the traffic police, sub-divisional magistrates, tehsildars, ATIs and high-ranked officials of the DTC have been authorised to issue challans to the violators.
